We understand that choosing a therapist for yourself or a loved one can be overwhelming. To make your search easier, we’d like to introduce you to one of our outstanding therapists, Nadia.
Nadia has recently joined our practice, and we are thrilled to have her as part of our team. With her expertise, she is well-equipped to support you, your teen, your relationship as a couple, and your family. We're confident that Nadia's skills and compassionate approach will make a positive impact on your journey toward well-being.
This week we’re focusing on counselling with our therapist Nadia Katasonova
What does a first counselling session with Nadia look like?
When you step into your first counselling session with Nadia, you'll immediately notice a welcoming and comfortable environment. This space is designed to make you feel safe, allowing you to share your thoughts without any expectations or judgment. Nadia's approach encourages you to take the lead in the session, empowering you to steer the conversation in a way that feels right for you.
By placing you in the driver’s seat, Nadia ensures that you feel heard, validated, and understood. You’ll leave the session with a sense of peace and a clearer understanding of your challenges, knowing that your feelings and experiences are valid and make sense. Rather than feeling like you’ve just vented, you’ll gain a sense of direction creating potential destinations for your journey ahead.
Ultimately, you’ll walk away feeling energized and hopeful, reassured that you are not alone or "crazy." Nadia's supportive approach helps you build a foundation for positive change and personal growth.
What approach to counselling does Nadia use?
Nadia employs a holistic approach to counselling, using various methods to help clients understand and address their challenges. She uses an attachment lens to explore where hurt and difficult emotions originate, revealing why we act in certain ways. Her systemic approach identifies where disconnections start, helping clients understand the root of their problems.
Nadia is trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples and families, which helps clients create stronger emotional bonds and improve their relationships. She incorporates expressive arts into her practice, allowing clients to access deeper levels of expression and healing through creative means.
As a trauma therapist, Nadia utilizes Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), a technique that helps clients process traumatic memories quickly and effectively. She also uses Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients develop skills for managing emotions, improving interpersonal relationships, and reducing self-destructive behaviors. These diverse therapeutic approaches enable Nadia to offer comprehensive and personalized care to her clients.
Why did Nadia decide to become a therapist?
Nadia has always been fascinated by relationships. She was intrigued by the different dynamics in relationships with parents, peers, and romantic partners. This passion led her to pursue training in family therapy, one of her favourite areas of specialization. Her desire to understand and improve relationships has been a driving force in her career as a therapist.
If she weren't a therapist, what would Nadia do?
If she weren't a therapist, Nadia would have a hobby farm where she could grow vegetables, and fruit while raising chickens. Growing up in a small town surrounded by mountains, she developed a love for nature. Her grandfather's apple farm, which had 18 different varieties of apples, also influenced her appreciation for farming and the outdoors.
What are some of Nadia’s favourite things?
Watching storms. I like tea and tea parties. I like hiking and being with family. Creative projects such as crocheting, quilting, knitting and interior decorating.
